Evinrude 40 hp engine killswitch?
First of all thank you jtexas. I was able to get my engine running with your help. In fact it runs so good I can’t turn it off. I’m not sure where the problem is but the ignition some how bypasses the kill switch. The wires on the ignition end have never moved neither have the wires on the kill switch. I can turn on the boat with the kill switch in any position and the key won’t turn off the engine. The wires are correct on the starter and starter solenoid. I have a wiring diagram but the wires on my boat are all one color (previous owner). Is this a problem in the key ignition switch? What else can it be? The only way I can turn off my boat is by cutting off the fuel line.
Track down the 2 small wires coming out from under the flywheel. (don’t know the model-so assuming it’s magneto) they should go all the way to the key switch. Find the 2 (M) terminals on the key switch and see if they connect when the switch is off. If not- your switch went bad at the same time you fixed the engine. By tracking all this down you will see if there are any breaks or “pushed pins” in any connectors or the wiring.
