Did I get a good deal on these kayaks?
Today I purchased an Old Town Loon 100, an Old Town Loon 111 and the complete Yakima roof rack system to carry both for $500. I need to purchase the proper towers for the rack which will run me about $150 with the clips. I think I came out with a good deal, but I don’t know much about kayaks. Please give me your professional opinion. By the way, if anyone needs a set of 4 Yakima 1A Raingutter towers, let me know. I know you know your stuff, so thanks in advance!!
Yes, that’s not a bad starter package for a pair of basic rec boats — think you got a good deal. It will cost you about that much again to get decent paddles, pfd’s, pumps and other accessories but sitll, $1000 for two complete outfits AND the rack is excellent.
For your Yakima towers, check EBay. I’ve gotten great deals on there for my Thule rack accessories, usually half what they cost new for complete sets and parts in excellent condition. A lot of people, like yourself, end up with incompatible parts when they change cars. You could sell your 1A’s on there too — maybe get enough to buy what you need. Craigslist works well for such swaps and sales too.
