Old Town Kayak Spray Skirt
Best beginner kayak?
I am thinking of buying a kayak. I want the guy, you do not use a skirt I think it is called? What brand is best? Kayaks Pelican good? What about Old Town? I'm 5'6 and 105-110 pounds. It will be used in calm water. I would like to have a sit on top.
Whatever boat you buy to ensure your pleasure be sure to get a good paddle (not aluminum at low prices $ 20 heavy plastic things) and make sure for it is at least 7 feet long (longer is better in the paddles, too – less effort and you will not bang your knuckles on the railing). Also get a good life jacket, which has been cut short enough to be comfortable paddling (NOT an orange "Mae West" type or skiing jacket). Tagged MTI "western Orleans model is nice (you can find them online for about $ 40, maybe less in your size) and cut short at the back for comfort in a sit-on-top. You can get a decent paddle for about $ 50 or $ 60, maybe less in late summer. So even if you decide you want a more powerful boat, later, you will always have a paddle and flotation vest, which you can use with any kayak.
